Communist leads in mayoral elections in Russia's third city

The current mayor of Novosibirsk, Anatoly Lokot, has no competitors in the upcoming elections and is the most recognizable politician with the maximum approval rating.

This is evidenced by data from a survey conducted from May 22 to June 2 by the Institute of Politics and Technology, in which 1,8 thousand respondents took part, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

Thus, about 45% of voters are ready to vote for Anatoly Lokt. His closest competitor is the head of the city headquarters of the liberal oppositionist Alexei Navalny, Sergei Boyko, who was supported by only 2% of voters. The remaining mayoral candidates are gaining support at the level of statistical error. 44% of voters were undecided.

At the same time, Lodt’s recognition is 98%, the second most popular politician was the same Boyko with 26% recognition and LDPR member Evgeny Lebedev with 22%.

The majority of Novosibirsk residents (57%) also approve of Lokot’s activities as mayor of the city.

“The survey results showed that the current mayor of Novosibirsk, Anatoly Lokt, has no equal opponents. Those who could have made him a worthy competitor announced themselves too late. And despite their level of citation in the media, they have too low recognition among voters. To increase it in a little more than 80 days, without causing negativity among Novosibirsk residents, is a financially intensive task and, as a result, unbearable,” the results of the study say.

Let us remind you that more than 1 million 600 thousand people live in Novosibirsk, which puts the city in third place in terms of population in Russia, after Moscow and St. Petersburg.

In 2015, a record was set in Novosibirsk - 1,738 million square meters of residential real estate were commissioned. The input coefficient per capita was 1,1 square meters per person. This surpassed the best achievement of the Soviet era, when 1988 thousand square meters of housing were commissioned in 678, and the per capita commissioning rate was 0,47 square meters per person.

Anatoly Lokot has headed Novosibirsk since 2014, being one of the few major communist leaders in Russia. Autumn 2019 Lokot intends to participate in the elections to be re-elected as mayor.
