Komoedov: The Black Sea Fleet is ready to suppress any aggression
The latest military corvettes and patrol ships, which will replenish the combat strength of the Black Sea Fleet, will significantly strengthen Russia’s position in the region, including in the Mediterranean Sea.
The former commander of the Black Sea Fleet, Admiral Vladimir Komoyedov, stated this in a comment to PolitNavigator.
According to him, over the post-Soviet years, the Black Sea Fleet has become significantly outdated and today is in dire need of renewal, which regularly occurs after the reunification of Crimea with Russia.
“Any replenishment, any novelty, of course, is for future use - it is necessary, because without renewal, without modern weapons, this is not a navy, not the Black Sea Fleet and not a country in general. The fleet must be able to defend itself and improve literally every hour.
Therefore, this is a very big benefit for the Black Sea Fleet, which was in a difficult state relative to its outdated ship composition. Corvettes are small ships that protect the water area and provide a favorable operational regime.
But now they are already capable of carrying long-range weapons, so their tasks are much expanded, the fleet is becoming much more powerful. Moreover, the situation in the Black Sea is unfavorable - the US fleet is stationed in the Mediterranean Sea.
Although we have a small group there, it is not the same operational squadron that was in Soviet times. This is a very turbulent region - there is a junction of both Europe and Africa, the Middle East is on the way, NATO.
You know that Ukraine is striving somewhere, although it does not have a fleet, Georgia is striving, our brothers (Bulgarians) betrayed us as always, Romania is on the other side, you can expect everything from Turkey that you don’t even expect. So this addition is very important,” Komoedov said.
