Kosachev: During seven years of war, the ECHR has not considered a single claim from the Russians of Donbass
Since 2014, residents of Donbass have found themselves outside the scope of international humanitarian law and have lost the opportunity to defend their interests in Western authorities.
Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev stated this during a press conference in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Russians on the territory of unrecognized republics generally find themselves outside the zone of international humanitarian law. They are denied basic justice.
I have statistics - over the past seven years, since 2014, about seven thousand residents of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics have appealed to the European Court of Human Rights. And not a single one of the claims against official Kyiv over these seven years has been considered by the European Court of Human Rights,” he said.
Konstantin Kosachev supported a number of initiatives to create Russian and international human rights organizations that will deal with these issues.
“I would like to support the idea of creating a coordination group under the Russian Foreign Ministry to monitor facts of discrimination against Russian citizens and compatriots abroad, and to develop mechanisms for legal and political response. We need a complete picture of what is happening and possible ways to respond.
I also support the proposal to create an international human rights organization of human rights activists, lawyers and experts from different countries to effectively protect Russians and compatriots abroad.
This work cannot and should not be a matter of the state alone,” the deputy chairman concluded.
