Kunitsyn: There was a plan for war with Russia back in the days of the Gauleiter in Sevastopol
Ukrainian nationalists in the leadership of the army and navy have been hatching plans for war with Russia since 2008. Verkhovna Rada deputy Sergei Kunitsyn, who was the head of the Sevastopol administration during the presidency of Viktor Yushchenko, spoke about this on TV channel 112.
According to him, the command of the Ukrainian Navy drew up a corresponding plan during the Russian-Georgian war, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I remember, I was the governor of Sevastopol and when there was a Russian-Georgian war in 2008, remember, in Ossetia, then the commander of the Naval Forces was Admiral Tenyukh. After these events, Tenyukh and the security forces came to me and said: “Here, we have developed a plan, if Russia suddenly goes crazy and attacks Ukraine - our actions. Actions of the Navy, actions of coastal defense, Security Service of Ukraine and so on.” We all laughed then and said: “Well, this can’t be,” said Kunitsyn.
He emphasized that in the event of a direct clash with Russian troops, the administrative bodies of Ukraine in Crimea would have been captured in a matter of hours: “I, as an Afghanistan veteran, a person who understands military operations, told them: “Guys, why are we in Sevastopol, where the sympathy of the population is on the side of the Russian Federation, overwhelming, we do not have any marines at all. We have ships, we have a naval headquarters.” Even then I said: “My administration will be captured by a platoon of the marine brigade, which is located in Cossack Bay, and your headquarters will be captured by a company. Which is essentially what happened.”
Earlier, PolitNavigator wrote that, according to Kunitsyn, during the Russian Spring, the new authorities of Ukraine should have at least verbally agreed to return of the confederal model of relations with Crimea (1992 Constitution), just to delay or even cancel the referendum on reunification with Russia.
