Latvia: Russian politician Linderman has been released from custody, but remains under investigation

A Riga court overturned the arrest as a preventive measure for the Russian politician, leader of the “For the Native Language!” party. Vladimir Linderman, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

Today he gave an interview to Baltcom radio.

“Both the prison administration and the prisoners understood that this was simply repression for political activity. They treated me well. I haven't met the person. Which would say: Linderman was imprisoned and rightly so. Everyone mentally pointed their fingers at the security police and in their hearts wished me a speedy release. You can feel it in the little things,” Linderman said.

He believes that his case is the first attempt in Latvia to convict a person not for his actions, but for his thoughts.

“We have to break this case down because it is unprecedented. This is the first high-profile trial, as in Orwell, about thought crime. There are no expressions in my text that can be imputed. Each time the investigator asked: what did you mean? That is, he wants to get into my brain. This is an attempt at thought control,” Linderman said.

Linderman was detained on May 8 as part of the criminal process that began on April 18 against Tatiana Zhdanok in connection with the All-Latvian Parents' Meeting organized by the Russian Union of Latvia and the Headquarters for the Defense of Russian Schools. We are talking about crimes provided for in section 10 of the Criminal Law “Crimes against the state”.
