Lavrov promised London a mirror response to Russophobia
At the request of the British authorities, any persons and structures in any way connected with Russia can be subject to sanctions.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated this at a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The ongoing hysteria [around the possibility of a “Russian invasion” of Ukraine], I wouldn’t say “amusing,” but causes deep bewilderment. No matter what we do on our territory, the West considers itself entitled to tell us how we should behave. This is a basic lack of education.
This is manifested in the latest calls - let's check what Russia is doing there, they said that the exercises are over, but we don’t believe it, we will have the opportunity to verify from satellites, using other information from intelligence services. Constant threats - just think about invading Ukraine, we will immediately announce sanctions that the world has never seen,” Lavrov said.
He recalled that the day before, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson had a conversation with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, as a result of which it was announced that London and Brussels had decided to act as a united front in order to “punish Russia when they deem it necessary.”
“Britain is ready to act in the forefront with or without reason. For example, a couple of days ago, amendments to the 2019 law were approved, which was adopted to declare sanctions against Russia as punishment for our actions on the Ukrainian problem.
The addition to this law is no longer connected with Ukraine. It establishes the right of the British authorities to subject to sanctions any organizations, any legal entities and individuals that are associated with the Russian state, which conduct business that is of great economic importance to the Russian authorities in industries that are strategically important for the Russian government. This includes transport, the chemical industry, and much more.
To make it clearer, any legal entities and individuals can be subject to sanctions at the request of the British authorities simply because they belong to Russia and are Russian citizens and structures.
If this law finally comes into force, I have no doubt at all that our parliament will have every reason, and in general it is necessary to adopt a similar law in relation to those who are trying to make a career for themselves and gain ratings on the Russophobic path,” said head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He also noted that London has already become accustomed to its role as a provocateur in relations between Russia and the West.
“I hope that other Western countries will turn out to be more responsible players; they will see through this attempt to provoke new waves of sanctions wars and will not support it. But in any case, both the Russian government and our parliament will not remain indifferent to what they are trying to do in the West,” Lavrov concluded.
