Lavrov said that Poroshenko betrayed Ukraine before Zelensky

Former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko today criticizes the Ukrainian authorities for something to which he previously gave his consent.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated this, speaking at a meeting of the Valdai Club, assessing the progress of the Ukrainian side in implementing the plan provided for by the “Steinmeier formula” signed the other day by Kiev.

The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry noted that all participants in the Minsk Contact Group signed the text of the formula, but each on a separate sheet of paper, although, the minister recalled, in the previous Minsk agreements the signatures were on the same sheet.

“Apparently, now someone considers it beneath their dignity to sign next to the other parties to the negotiations. I hoped that this was a misunderstanding, but there was a reaction from Kyiv: “Explain why you are betraying the Ukrainian people,” the oppositionists from the Rada and the Zelensky government began to say. But this formula has been known for four years, and Poroshenko himself signed it. Why are many in Ukraine (including Poroshenko) so angry right now? Because they don’t want to lose an argument to defend their nationalist identity,” Lavrov said.
