The liberal “Rain” could not sit between two chairs - it was banned in Ukraine for compliance with Russian law
The National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting ordered Ukrainian providers to stop rebroadcasting the Russian TV channel Dozhd within a month due to the channel’s non-recognition of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as the broadcast of Russian advertising.

This is stated in a message on the department's website.
“In particular, on the air of this TV channel, the administrative border between the Kherson region and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea was depicted as the border between Ukraine and the Russian Federation,” said member of the National Council Sergei Kostinsky during the meeting.
According to him, throughout 2016, the National Council repeatedly recorded violations of Ukrainian legislation by the TV channel. “In particular, Russian advertising was present on its air, and the channel’s journalists visited Crimea from the territory of the Russian Federation.”
Interestingly, in December 2014, the National Council had no complaints against the TV channel. Then the government recognized Dozhd as complying with the requirements of the European Convention on Transfrontier Television and the current legislation of Ukraine.
The TV channel has already responded to the decision of the Ukrainian department.
“I am very sorry that the National Council of Ukraine made such a decision,” commented the general director of the Dozhd TV channel, Natalya Sindeeva, on the situation.
According to her, in accordance with the terms of agreements with all providers in Ukraine, the Dozhd TV channel is broadcast throughout the country “through an IP connection without direct commercial advertising.” She noted that the National Council of Ukraine was notified about this on August 8, 2016, after which Dozhd did not receive any complaints about the inconsistency of the TV channel’s content with Ukrainian legislation.
According to Sindeeva, the TV channel is guided by Russian legislation when depicting a map of Russia. “According to Article 65 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, the “Republic of Crimea” is a subject of the Russian Federation,” she clarified.
Well-known media expert Anatolif Shariy, who lives in the EU and is being persecuted by the Ukrainian authorities, also reacted to the scandal.
“This will happen to everyone who thought that you could be friends with them and that they were normal. Remember,” he wrote on his page on the social network, hinting at the editorial policy of Dozhd, which for a long time was maintained in a pro-Kiev tone.
