Liberals will again try to rock Moscow with protests

Russian liberals are planning to organize another march in Moscow on the anniversary of the murder of opposition leader Boris Nemtsov.

One of the active participants in non-systemic liberal protests, Ilya Yashin, stated this in his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Today a letter with the signatures of dozens of well-known and respected citizens in society was sent to the Moscow mayor’s office. They announce their intention to organize the Boris Nemtsov March in the city center on February 29 and invite officials not to interfere with its implementation. The document is addressed to Sergei Sobyanin. The official application will be submitted, in accordance with the law, two weeks before the scheduled date,” Yashin said.

The letter that the initiators of the march sent to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin states that “tens of thousands of Muscovites” will take part in the event, and the action will be not only memorial, but also political.

“We would like to draw your attention to the fact that the action will be not only memorial, but also political in nature. Its participants, defending the values for which Boris Nemtsov fought, intend to express their attitude to the latest initiatives of the country's leadership and put forward political demands of the authorities. The march is planned as a peaceful mass event, which will be held in accordance with Article 31 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation,” the letter says.

One of the signatories of the letter, Russian musician Andrei Makarevich, known for his liberal views, said in a commentary to Ekho Moskvy that he would demand an investigation into Nemtsov’s murder, but would refuse political slogans.

“I signed because, in general, Borya and I had an excellent relationship, we communicated a lot. And I am very worried that his murder has not been fully solved and I am very afraid that it will not be so. Overall, this is a completely disgusting story. And he is a man who deserves to be remembered. This is quite enough for me,” said Makarevich.

Let us recall that in previous years participants of marches in memory of Nemtsov took part in them with Ukrainian flags and portraits extremists and saboteurs detained in the Russian Federation, and the main slogans were criticism of Vladimir Putin and the demand for a change in the President of the Russian Federation. Liberals also chanted: “Ukraine is our brother” and “No to war!”
