Lukashenko: Belarus does not need a Russian airbase

There is no need for a Russian airbase on the territory of Belarus. The 3-4 minutes that a flight from Russia will take will not make any difference, and the airfield on the front line will simply be exposed to enemy attack. Moreover, on the territory of Belarus there are several runways where up to 30 aircraft can be quickly transferred at any time, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

President Alexander Lukashenko made this statement today in Minsk at a press conference for Russian journalists, BelTa agency reports.

He also reminded Russians that his country today is an outpost of Russia. “Especially now, when the situation in Ukraine is unstable, and a new US military base may appear in Poland,” he added.

Lukashenko also suggested that Moscow provide the Belarusian Air Force with several combat aircraft, especially since Russia has placed two of its military facilities on the country’s territory for free.
