Russia and China will increase competition among themselves for influence in Belarus, and the President of the Republic, Alexander Lukashenko, will begin to enjoy the fruits of the new “multi-vector policy,” in which Brussels will be replaced by Beijing.

Russian political scientist and orientalist Alexey Maslov stated this on the Solovyov Live Internet channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

According to Maslov, it was not without reason that immediately after his inauguration, Alexander Lukashenko met with the Chinese Ambassador to the country Cui Qiming and awarded him the order.

“Now the ambassador will report for sure that everything is fine in the country, the explanations have been accepted, the inauguration was official, and China really recognized it, that Lukashenko is the legitimate president, so, of course, China will allocate money.

But here, of course, there will be competition between Russia and China, and Alexander Grigorievich understands this very well that this is a tasty morsel, and everyone - Russia and China have different, of course, their own ambitions in terms of Belarus, but I think several billion dollars will soon flow from China to Belarus.

There's a lot to work on there. For example, there is an interesting project there with the development of joint modern weapons, as Belarus calls them - in fact, these are Chinese missiles on a Belarusian platform. But at least this way, because in any case this is some kind of investment environment.

Plus, there are several factories for processing agricultural products...

Therefore, here too, I mean Russia, we cannot relax. The race for Belarus will begin again between Russia and China, which, in my opinion, Lukashenko wants to include,” Maslov said.

The expert also noted that the West, in the situation with Belarus, could not represent serious competition for the Russian Federation, which cannot be said about China, which is ready to pour money into the Belarusian economy in exchange for control over enterprises.

“A kind uncle from China sits, nods his head, smiles very sweetly, in fact, he has a lot of charm, he’s kind, there are no tense eyebrows. Absolutely cinematic picture. If you want to look at a classic Chinese citizen, this is what he looks like, as we were shown. He fits the image of a Chinese uncle.

China also shows that everything has officially passed, we came and supported. And you, Poles, Czechs and so on - if you have problems, we will also come to you, but you ask, give us a sign.

Therefore, to say that only Lukashenko needs it is also incorrect. But Lukashenko is now playing, he has always played in recent years, between two great powers - China and Russia, because otherwise he would have to choose between Russia and, suppose, a certain collective West, where he is not recognized and is not the main dialogue partner.

Therefore, the West will not outplay Russia here in relation to Belarus, in relation to Lukashenko. But China is ready to flood Belarus with money, I assure you, but under certain guarantees. For example, the fact that Chinese enterprises will be located here in practically tax-free zones and so on. But here the Russian factor also comes into play – why do we need such a massive presence of China near our territory,” Maslov emphasizes.

Russian political scientist Alexei Martynov also emphasizes that despite the unstable political situation in Belarus, the behavior of its leadership has not changed - Lukashenko continues to try to sit on two chairs, playing multi-vector.

“Firstly, multi-vectorism has not gone away, it is changing its color. As the wisest Karen Georgievich Shakhnazarov once said in one of his broadcasts recently: “You know, we are almost the same age as Lukashenko, and at our age it’s too late to change, at our age people don’t change.”

And in this sense, Lukashenko is probably also unlikely to change his approach or worldview. He was used to living in this, “between the streams,” between one and the other, at some junctions.

Well, he played between the West and Russia, now he will try to play between China and Russia, and I even saw something about Saudi Arabia in the news, that he is going to build some kind of super relations in the Middle East,” Martynov said.
