Lyamin: “The United States has shown its inability to create viable pro-American regimes”

The current rapid victory of the Taliban in Afghanistan has many similarities with the collapse of the puppet South Vietnam in 1975.

Military expert Yuri Lyamin stated this in an interview with Moskovsky Komsomolets, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

He is also convinced that “Washington has once again shown its inability to create viable pro-American regimes.”

“There are a lot of coincidences with the collapse of South Vietnam. If memory serves, there was the third army in the world in terms of personnel, there were a lot of armored vehicles, tanks, a fleet, and everything else. And it fell apart in two months. The offensive began in the first days of spring, and by the end of April Saigon surrendered almost without a fight. Is very similar. The first weeks are resistance, and then there is collapse. And here the situation is very similar,” said Lyamin.

He draws attention to the relatively low losses of the government army in Afghanistan.

“In South Vietnam, the number of military deaths, relative to the total number of casualties, was relatively small. They simply surrendered and deserted. Just like in Afghanistan. There are a lot of coincidences here,” says the publication’s interlocutor.

At the same time, the expert agrees that the United States has completely failed in Afghanistan, since as a result the Taliban control more territories than in 2001, when the NATO invasion began.

“It turns out that way, yes. They are once again trying to build governments, state institutions, and armed forces in other countries in their own way. And once again they failed to cope with their tasks,” sums up Lyamin.
