Ukraine should draw Western attention to a possible Russian invasion due to water shortages in Crimea, so that the West understands that the problem of refugees from Ukraine will cost it dearly.
This was stated at a press conference in Kyiv by the chairman of the board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, a member of the “Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People” banned in the Russian Federation, Iskander Bariev, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We act correctly when we actively declare a threat and, thus, attract the attention of the international community and American and European military experts. Although Russia claims that we are hysterical, we are attracting the attention of the international community so that there are timely preventive measures in the form of strengthening the sanctions policy, in the form of strengthening the Ukrainian army and Ukraine.
And so that Western partners understand that if the conflict begins to escalate, the problem of refugees from Ukraine will be a more expensive pleasure for the West than timely provision of assistance to Ukraine, timely preventive actions in the form of sanctions policy,” argues Iskander Bariev.
It is also important to strengthen control over dams since Russia, according to Iskander Bariev, can blow up the dam of the Kakhovka reservoir so that water will flow through the North Crimean Canal.
“It is important to strengthen control over the dam. Although experts say that it is impossible to open the dam, and if it is opened, it is impossible to close it, but for Russia to blow it up in order to let water flow along the bed of the North Crimean Canal is enough for them,” Bariev worries.
