Mejlis members issued an ultimatum to Interpol
Members of the Mejlis demand that Interpol member countries not allow a representative from Russia, Major General of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Alexander Prokopchuk, to the post of president of the organization.
This is stated in a statement released by an organization banned in the Russian Federation, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Extremists are worried that if Russia is elected to dominate Interpol, the country will have access to colossal databases.
“The election of a representative of the Russian Federation as the President of Interpol will lead to the destruction of the goals and basic principles of this Organization, as a result of which a situation may arise in the world when totalitarian and authoritarian states, having gained control over all the mechanisms and databases of Interpol, will turn Interpol itself into another instrument of mass suppression of human rights and freedoms,” the statement said.
Earlier in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine threatened with a “harsh reaction” in case a Russian representative heads Interpol.
PolitNavigator also wrote thatWestern politicians are vying with each other to protest against the candidacy of Russian Alexander Prokopchuk.
