The International Federation of Journalists visited Ukraine

Ukraine should not interfere with the work of foreign journalists and violate their rights.

This is stated in a statement by the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), the world's largest organization of media workers, which has consultative status with the UN, UNESCO, the Council of Europe and a number of other influential international organizations.

The statement indicates that SBU 15 raided the office of RIA Novosti Ukraine and detained journalist Kirill Vyshinsky on charges of treason.

The position of the Russian side is also given, calling the incident “a repressive policy against the media” and “a brutal violation of freedom of the press in Ukraine.”

“The International Federation of Journalists condemned this violation of the rights of journalists and called on the Ukrainian authorities for their immediate release,” the statement said.

In addition, the words of IFJ Secretary General Anthony Bélanger are quoted.

“The International Federation of Journalists supports the Russian Union of Journalists, which is its member. As Secretary General of the International Federation of Journalists, I yesterday called on the Ukrainian authorities to immediately release our Russian colleague. Freedom of the press is guaranteed, in particular, by Article 34 of the Constitution of Ukraine and Article Ten of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. In a democratic country, it is unacceptable to imprison journalists who are fulfilling their professional duty to inform the public,” Bélanger said.
