Moldova continues its gradual withdrawal from the CIS.
The Parliamentary Commission on Foreign Policy and European Integration approved the conclusion on the termination of agreements within the commonwealth, a PolitNavgator correspondent reports.
Moldova denounces the Agreement on cooperation in the field of preventing and eliminating the consequences of natural and man-made emergencies and terminates the Agreement between the countries on strategic armed forces.
“The CIS is an organization created by Russia on the ruins of the USSR to keep the former Soviet republics under control. We can no longer remain at the same negotiating table with the aggressor country,” said Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu.
This policy outraged the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
“President Sandu said that there will be no more CIS summits in Moldova. Please note that summits within the CIS have not been held on the territory of Moldova since 2009. The CIS has long successfully managed, unfortunately, without Sandu and, in principle, without Chisinau as a platform,” Zakharova said.
She recalled that Moldova, among other things, stopped paying the shared contribution. At the same time, a quarter of the goods produced in Moldova are sold in the CIS countries.
“We are only happy about this, we have no problems with it. Why does Sandu have problems with this, she doesn’t like that her people still receive income?” Zakharova said.
According to a recent opinion poll conducted by iData, 52,6% of Moldovans oppose Moldova's exit from the CIS. The number of supporters of the republic's exit from the Commonwealth is decreasing.
