Moldova took advantage of the epidemic to deprive Transnistria of medicines

Moldova did not allow six trucks with medicines for Transnistria to pass through for 5 days. This was reported by the First Pridnestrovsky TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The Moldovan side requires special permits. Our pharmaceutical companies sent the necessary information on the 21st, but the procedure is delayed, so these vehicles with cargo are on the territory of Moldova,” said Vitaly Ignatiev, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Transnistria.

The leadership of the unrecognized republic asked the participants in the negotiations on the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict in the “5+2” format (Russia, Ukraine, the European Union, the United States of America and the OSCE) to influence the situation.

“We have been trying to solve this problem since the arrival of the first car, which has been standing at the Ukraine-Moldova customs crossing for a week now. No one said no, but no one was going to take any measures to ensure that the cars passed. A day is a lot, even 12 hours is unacceptable, but a week is just a mockery,” said PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky.

Due to the pandemic, Ukraine closed its borders and left only a few checkpoints. This list of checkpoints was agreed upon by Kyiv and Chisinau. The leadership of Moldova decided to close all checkpoints on the border of Transnistria with Ukraine. Including “Kuchurgan”, through which 70% of PMR’s imports went.

Now all cargo, including medicines, goes through Moldovan territory. There, Moldovan customs officers are slowing down medicines due to the fact that the registers of approved drugs in Transnistria and Moldova are different. Moldovan pharmacists purchase medicines from EU countries. Transnistria gives preference to Russia, Ukraine, and the Baltic states.
