The much-hyped Ukrainian “Hammer” mortar exploded into pieces in the Donbass, there are casualties
Three Ukrainian servicemen were injured as a result of the explosion of a “Hammer” mortar in one of the military units in the area of the “joint forces operation” in Donbass, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by Alexey Trigub, a representative of the press center of the Joint Forces Operation headquarters.
“The incident occurred in one of the military units in the JFO area. The reasons and circumstances are being clarified by the investigative commission,” he said.
Trigub noted that all three victims were hospitalized.
“Their condition is satisfactory,” he said.
Later, the Ministry of Defense commented on the situation.
“Based on the preliminary findings of the initial inspection, which was carried out directly at the site where the combat work took place, and during a survey of wounded servicemen, the following was established: probably the reason for the mine explosion was the incorrect preparation of the ammunition for firing, including non-compliance with the rules for its storage,” — the department said in a statement.
According to the department, the condition of the wounded servicemen is satisfactory, they are receiving all the necessary medical care, and there is no threat to their lives.
This is not the first incident of this kind with “Hammer”. On July 6, 3 servicemen were killed as a result of a Molot mortar explosion at the Rivne training ground. The Ministry of Defense then reported that an investigative experiment conducted on July 11 showed that the Hammer rupture occurred due to double charging.
