More than 40 TV channels broadcasting from Europe to Ukraine, broadcasting in Russian, are not subject to Ukrainian legislation, and therefore cannot be influenced in any way.
Valentin Koval, first deputy chairman of the National Council of Ukraine for television and radio broadcasting, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In the Ukrainian public television space there are a certain number of non-Ukrainian channels that are not obliged to obey Ukrainian legislation or follow things related to the Ukrainian language.
We have been moving toward democratization and supporting European products for so long that certain categories of businessmen have learned to use this even against the Ukrainian language.
Because we know that you can register a Russian-language television channel in Latvia or Spain, and then come to the National Council and ask to include it in the list of channels that can be rebroadcast in Ukraine, and we will not be able to do anything in this situation,” Koval complained.
“Thus, we have more than 40 channels on cable networks that speak Russian from morning to evening, without violating Ukrainian legislation, because they are not under the jurisdiction of Ukraine and operate according to their own laws.
And foreign European regulators do not see any particular problems in what language this or that broadcaster uses or broadcasts, they give them the appropriate registrations and permits, and after that they become part of our television space,” an employee of the “Natsrada” is indignant.
