In Ukraine, the Russian Federation has shown that it will not allow its interests to be infringed - French political scientist
Having come to power, the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin blocked the process of self-disintegration of the country and restored Russians' faith in the future.
This opinion was expressed in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta by a French political scientist, author of the book “Monsieur Putin. A view from France” Frederic Pons.
He said that he fully shared the point of view of the philosopher Alexander Zinoviev, who admitted that Putin’s arrival “saved Russia at that very critical moment when it was on the brink of the abyss.”
“With the arrival of Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin, the process of self-disintegration of the country was blocked. Using tough, energetic measures, he was able to achieve the internal integrity of the state, put the oligarchs in their place and, most importantly, restored the Russians’ faith in themselves and their future. The decline in the demographic curve stopped, the birth rate first stabilized, and then began to increase. Patriotism again became a value that united the people, gave them vitality and pride, the very qualities that helped win the bloodiest war in the history of mankind,” the political scientist noted.
He also believes that Putin managed to restore Russia’s authority in international affairs, which was lost after the collapse of the USSR.
“Now your country has again taken its rightful place among the world's leading players such as the USA and China. Syria is a clear example of this. And the situation around Ukraine has shown that Russia will not allow interests to be infringed near its borders. This course, both within the country and abroad, is in tune with the aspirations of the overwhelming majority of Russians. They associate him with the name of Putin, and therefore I don’t see anything strange in the fact that he enjoys widespread support among the people,” Pons concludes.
