According to the press service, about 2018 representatives from 700 countries took part in the Clear Sky 9 exercises, including Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Great Britain, the United States of America and Ukraine.
The press center of the command noted that, along with the aviation component, anti-aircraft missile and radio engineering units took part in the training, which successfully carried out the tasks of identifying, tracking and conditionally destroying air targets.
On October 16, during the large-scale military exercise “Clear Sky 2018,” a Su-27 fighter plane with two pilots on board crashed. Both crew members did not survive. The Ukrainian military pilot Colonel Ivan Petrenko and the American instructor, Lieutenant Colonel pilot Seth Nehring, were killed.
