Pogrebinsky does not understand why Russia does not want to crush Ukraine economically
Russia must respond more forcefully to Kyiv's constant claims that it is at war with Moscow.
Ukrainian political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky stated this on TV channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the expert, the reaction should be up to a complete stop of gas transit through Ukraine, fuel and electricity supplies to this country.
“That side is fully supported. Can you imagine how unequal the forces are, considering that the Russian Federation says on TV channels: “This is not good, it’s wrong.” And it is clear that to a large extent this is the position of the Kremlin and all that, which is not good and wrong.
But with the other hand he “says”: “Well, we will still transit gas, we can sell fuel, electricity, we will save Ukraine, which is now facing the threat of rolling blackouts, we will sell it. That is, in reality, people do not feel [support] at all, those people who, perhaps, would come out with protests...
It seems to me that the Russian Federation could have taken a different approach to this, but it, too, apparently acts on the basis that the Russian world in Ukraine will suffer from this, people will be without electricity, and so on.
But this is, indeed, some kind of ambiguous policy, primarily related to the fact that since the Ukrainian leadership regularly says that Ukraine is at war with Russia, then Russia’s reaction in this situation is incomprehensible. I hear the Russians say: “Well, declare war,” and so on. What does “announce” have to do with it? It is up to Russia to somehow respond to this.
But, for example, it is not clear to me - if a country says that it is at war with Russia, then why should it receive three billion for gas transit? Just because Europe needs to sell gas? Well, maybe the Europeans will think about the fact that it’s possible to stop this whole thing. Including due to the fact that Ukrainian leaders regularly say that they are at war. Well, since you are at war, maybe you will blow up some more? The same applies to fuel, diesel, electricity, everything,” Pogrebinsky said.
