With the money allocated by Zelensky, only 2% of roads can be repaired, which will last no more than a year

This year, about $4,5 billion has been allocated for the repair of Ukrainian roads. However, this will only be enough to tidy up about 2% of the road length.

But since carriers do not comply with weight standards for transporting goods, and the state does not control the weight of freight transport, even these 2% of repaired roads will be broken within a year.

Former First Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Vladimir Shulmeister stated this on the NEWSONE TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The roads are in terrible condition. The President says that this year an unprecedented amount of funding went to repair roads, about $4,5 billion. But this does not mean that we will quickly have high-quality roads. And if there is such an attitude as now, then high-quality roads will appear for a very short time.

The roads will be immediately destroyed, because today, unfortunately, there is no size and weight control. And trucks that go onto roads that are being repaired are immediately destroyed. There was and still is a corruption scheme on this topic.

The railway infrastructure is worn out by more than 90%. In Odessa, the runway at the airport is now operational and, hopefully, flights will fly here now. And so, everything has frozen and for 28 years it has only grown old and decayed.

And to make it clear where this money goes – this is approximately 2% of all roads that are planned to be repaired this year. 2% is, of course, more than zero, but not enough. And given the fact that there is no weight control, these 2% are reset to zero within a year,” said Vladimir Shulmeister.
