“We must attack the Russians in winter”: Ukraine is being incited in the USA
Under no circumstances should Ukraine stop military operations in winter, as this will play into Russia’s hands.
According to a PolitNavigator correspondent, former US Army Intelligence Colonel Dan Soller stated this in an interview with Newsweek.
He suggests that Russia is interested in pausing the war while seeking to regroup in preparation for resuming the offensive later.
“If you give the Russians the opportunity to take up defensive positions over the winter, they will just get stronger” and form new lines that will be “very difficult” for Ukraine to attack, Soller said.
However, he added that Ukraine “will not” and “cannot” continue operations in the winter throughout the conflict area.
A senior researcher at the American Rand Corporation, former US Ambassador to Kazakhstan and Georgia, William Courtney, also agrees with this approach.
“[Ukraine] will soon be frozen, so this will be the right time for mechanized warfare, especially for wheeled vehicles... The momentum of the battlefield is now with Ukraine, it would not be in Ukraine's interest to abandon this momentum. Additionally, giving Russia time to regroup over the winter could allow it to better prepare its soldiers for a future battle,” Courtney suggests.
He claims that Russia is only paying lip service to peace talks but is not showing “serious interest” in them.
