NATO still exists only thanks to Russia - Senator
Only Russia justifies the existence of such an outdated Cold War structure as NATO. Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Konstantin Kosachev wrote about this on his Facebook.
“The final declaration of the alliance summit leaves no doubt: the key state, the savior and guardian of this relict institution of the twentieth century, is... Russia. NATO leaders have spelled out all imaginable and unimaginable sins of Russia. There was also a reference to the MH-17 tragedy, and even to the “discrimination of the Crimean Tatars,” which they managed to include in the declaration of the military (!) alliance,” Kosachev wrote.
He believes that the real reason for the anti-Russian rhetoric is the desire to hide serious contradictions between the European members of the Alliance and the United States.
“Russia, as saving cement, is essentially “covering up” the growing cracks in the NATO monolith that have arisen between Trump’s America and Merkel’s Europe. Therefore, the final “cry of the soul” (“Save us, there are Russians all around!”) of the summit is needed in order to convince the growing number of skeptics in Europe, but also to some extent help America reconcile the population of European countries with the inevitability of increasing military budgets,” – wrote Kosachev.
