New Prime Minister of Moldova: The fight against Russian propaganda will continue

The new Prime Minister of Moldova, Maia Sandu, representing the pro-Western ACUM bloc, is not going to reverse the decisions of her predecessors, controlled by oligarch Vlad Plahotniuc, to ban news programs from Russian TV channels.

She stated this on air on the RTR Moldova TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Well, there is a law that was passed. No one is repealing this law. The fight against propaganda will continue. We must decide which methods are correct. We know the point of view of the European Union. We will discuss this issue from this point of view,” Sandu said, answering a question from a viewer.

In Moldova, on February 12, 2018, a law adopted by the country’s parliament to amend the Code on Television and Radio came into force. In accordance with this document, on the territory of the Republic of Moldova it is prohibited to broadcast information-analytical, news and military broadcasts of television channels belonging to countries that have allegedly not ratified the European Convention on Transfrontier Television.

Initiators from the Plahotniuc-controlled Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) openly called it an act of “countering Russian propaganda.” The current ally of Prime Minister Sandu, President of Moldova Igor Dodon, refused to sign the law, but it still came into force.
