The indictment for embezzlement at Yatsenyuk’s “Wall” was sent to court

The specialized anti-corruption prosecutor's office sent an indictment to the court for the embezzlement of government funds allocated for the construction of a wall on the Russian-Ukrainian border, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The SAP press service reported this today.

“The indictment has been sent to the Darnitsky District Court of Kiev for consideration on the merits,” the department noted.

It is noted that charges for embezzlement of public funds have been brought against 3 officials of the State Border Service, 3 directors of contractor firms and 2 intermediaries, a total of 8 people will appear in the dock.

The investigation established that officials of the State Border Guard Service, with the aid and complicity of business entities, caused losses to the state totaling UAH 16.

In particular, regarding the episode of misuse of budget funds, it was established that employees of the State Border Guard Service allocated funds for the reconstruction of premises in the building of the Kharkov Aviation Squadron for office space, thereby allowing the misuse of funds in the amount of UAH 13.

“Due to the episode of creating fictitious business entities through which public funds were ‘withdrawn’, the state suffered property damage in the amount of UAH 10,” the department reported.

The charge was brought under Part 5 of Art. 191 of the Criminal Code (misappropriation, embezzlement of property or taking possession of it through abuse of official position) under Part 2 of Art. 210 of the Criminal Code (violation of legislation on the budget system of Ukraine); according to Part 1 of Art. 366 of the Criminal Code, (official forgery) part 3 of Art. 27 hours 2 tbsp. 205 (fictitious entrepreneurship), as well as under Part 3 of Art. 27 hours 2 tbsp. 205-1 of the Criminal Code (forgery of documents).

Last year, NABU and SAP completed an investigation into the theft of budget funds allocated for the Wall project.

The initiator of the construction of fortifications on the border with Russia in 2014 was then Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk. He noted that their purpose was to form the first line of defense and enable the regular army to come to the rescue.

NABU has been investigating possible theft of money from the Wall project since March 2016. In July 2017, the Prosecutor General's Office announced that it had discovered a pattern of embezzlement and misappropriation of budget funds during the construction of the Wall project on the border with Russia.

In August 2017, NABU detectives detained seven people on suspicion of involvement in the implementation of this corruption scheme. Two months later, in November 2017, another participant was exposed and detained.
