Ombudsman Denisova knows nothing about the hunger strike of Semenchenko’s accomplices in Georgia

The Office of the Ombudsman of Ukraine has made all necessary inquiries about the state of health of Ukrainians detained in Georgia and is monitoring the progress of the case against them. In addition, the Office does not have information about the hunger strike of Ukrainians, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

This was announced by the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Lyudmila Denisova, the press service reports.

“We are following this case, we have written all the necessary requests to our embassy in Georgia, and are now waiting for a response. The embassy is involved in (assisting detainees - ed.), and we monitor it too,” the ombudsman noted.

According to her, there is currently no information about the condition of the detainees; in addition, the ombudsman’s office has not received information on the detainees’ hunger strike.

“There is no confirmation of such information yet,” Denisova noted, answering a reporter’s question whether there is information about the hunger strike of Ukrainian citizens.

At the same time, Denisova assured that detained Ukrainian citizens receive the assistance of a lawyer.

Let us recall that on December 4, the Tbilisi City Court sentenced those detained during a special operation in Tbilisi, during which six citizens of Ukraine and one citizen of Georgia were detained, to custody. Georgian media reported that seven people with Ukrainian passports were detained; the detainees are accused of illegally acquiring and storing firearms, explosives or explosive devices. The main figure in this campaign turned out to be the scandalous Ukrainian people's deputy Semyon Semenchenko.
