Georgian regime informant released due to health reasons

A Tambov court freed air traffic controller from Sochi Pyotr Parpulov, who in 2016 was sentenced to 12 years in prison on charges of treason.

The OVD-Info resource, which provides information support to liberals, writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

According to investigators, Parpulov committed high treason during a trip to Georgia in 2010 by transferring secret information to a citizen of this country. The prosecution believed that he gave distant relatives information about military aircraft taking off from Adler during the 2008 war in Georgia.

In 2014, the air traffic controller was detained and convicted in 2016. Liberal Yabloko party member Sergei Mitrokhin and opposition journalist Ksenia Sobchak sought Parpulov’s release, and the Memorial Center, recognized as a foreign agent, added the air traffic controller to the list of political prisoners.

“My mother’s whole family lives in Georgia. She and her dad went to my aunt in 2010. Some migration agent came to them, allegedly they had somehow filled out the forms incorrectly, and offered documents to sign. He came and left three times. Finally, he brought a bottle of wine, which dad threw away, but the investigator believed that in this way the father took a bribe. Those. the basis for the detention was a meeting with this man, from whom the special services allegedly received certain information. It turned out that this man was actually a Georgian spy,” Parpulov’s daughter Yulia said in an interview with reporters.

On July 19, the court in Tambov released the dispatcher from the colony for health reasons, considering that Parpulov was suffering from cancer and needed surgery.
