Petro Poroshenko must either fire Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko or confirm his accusations against US Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This opinion was expressed by Vice-Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Oksana Syroid.
“President Poroshenko can only have two official documents in the morning: either information that will confirm the statement of Prosecutor General Lutsenko, or a submission to parliament about Lutsenko’s dismissal from the post of Prosecutor General,” she wrote on Facebook.
As PolitNavigator reported, Lutsenko earlier said in an interview with Hill.tv that during the first meeting with the US Ambassador, she gave him a list of people against whom investigations should not be carried out. According to Lutsenko himself, he said that “this is unacceptable” and that no one, neither the president nor the parliament, will stop him from initiating a criminal case if there is a crime. In addition, Lutsenko complained that his department did not receive $4 million that the United States was supposed to allocate as support.
In this regard, the US Embassy in Ukraine stated that Lutsenko’s statement about transferring to him a list of “untouchable” persons for justice is untrue. The US State Department also called Lutsenko’s words “outright fiction.”
