Pashinsky faces 8 years in prison, but where he is is unknown

Former people's deputy Sergei Pashinsky was informed of suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm to citizen Vyacheslav Khimikus, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

This was reported by the press service of the State Bureau of Investigation.

“Investigators from the central office of the State Bureau of Investigation reported suspicions to the People’s Deputy of Ukraine of the Verkhovna Rada of the V-VIII convocations of causing grievous bodily harm to a citizen,” the report says.

The issue of electing a preventive measure in the form of detention in custody is currently being decided.

According to the investigation, on December 31, 2016, a verbal conflict took place between Pashinsky and citizen Khimikus in the Kyiv region. During this, the MP pulled out his own registered firearm (a Glock 19 pistol) and shot the man in the left leg. As a result, the citizen received bodily injuries in the form of a gunshot splinter fracture of the left leg.

According to the conclusion of the forensic medical examination, the injuries inflicted are severe.

The event was qualified as intentional serious bodily injury, that is, intentional bodily injury that was dangerous to life at the time of infliction, or resulted in the loss of any organ or its functions, genital mutilation, mental illness or other health disorder, associated with permanent disability of at least one third, or termination of pregnancy or irreparable disfigurement of the face (Part 1 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

In 2017, the Prosecutor General's Office closed criminal proceedings against the then People's Deputy of Ukraine Sergei Pashinsky regarding the shooting incident.

In 2018, the police handed suspicion to Vyacheslav Khimikus, who was wounded by Sergei Pashinsky with a firearm on December 31, 2016, during the conflict near Kiev.

It is interesting that a number of Ukrainian media reported that Pashinsky allegedly left the territory of Ukraine, although law enforcement officers are in no hurry to either confirm or deny such information.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian lawyer Anlrey Portnov, who became one of the initiators of the resumption of criminal prosecution of Pashinsky after he lost his parliamentary immunity, expressed satisfaction with what happened.

“The sanction of the article provides for punishment of up to 8 years in prison. We are waiting for a preventive measure,” Portnov wrote in his ielegram channel.
