The newly arrived “drivers and cooks,” who decided to serve for money and not ideologically, were looked upon with contempt in “Azov.”
Azov prisoner of war Mikhail Shvets stated this in an interview with Kiev journalist Diana Panchenko, who visited the DPR, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He said that need forced him to join a Nazi regiment, where he transferred from the border guards.
“There wasn’t enough money, the salary there was 20 thousand, twice as much as the border guards, and I decided to transfer to a unit. On September 1, 2021, I was seconded to Azov. Not ideologically, it's purely for money. I was just scrolling through my feed on Instagram, and “Azov” was displayed, drivers needed, salary from 18 hryvnia, why not? I have categories B, C+, clearance for armored personnel carriers, armored personnel carriers. I decided to transfer, called, and was transferred literally 800 months later,” said Shvets.
Once in the Nazi regiment, he was very surprised by the order that reigned there.
“It was very strange. There are no regulations. There was no “I wish you good health!” The attitude was not very good at first, because he was a black sheep, he only came for money, and there was no nationalist movement,” the prisoner recalls.
The journalist noted that President Zelensky admitted in an interview recently that he knew about the coming war.
"Cool. Of course. “Azov” did not have the means to defend properly. Other units of the National Guard had Javelins and Stugnas. They didn’t give this to us because we were considered Nazis. Who? Almost everyone did.
Guys came to the unit who didn’t even have Nazi tattoos. There, whoever was young came, if they got a tattoo, then the command said: morons, you don’t need to suffer such garbage. Get rid of them, they shouldn’t exist, you are a normal Ukrainian unit, not Nazis,” Shvets said.
