“Both the US and the EU have declared, in principle, a default on their obligations to Russia. And now everyone in the world knows that obligations in dollars and euros may not be fulfilled. It is quite obvious that in this regard, supplying our goods to both the EU and the USA - and receiving payment in dollars - euros does not make any sense for us. Therefore, I have decided to implement in the shortest possible time a set of measures to transfer payment for our natural gas supplied to unfriendly countries for Russian rubles,” Putin said.

At the same time, he noted that Russia will continue to supply gas according to the volumes and prices in previously concluded contracts, since it values its reputation.

According to the decree, all foreign gas buyers will be required to sell foreign currency on the Moscow Exchange.

The market reacted to the initiative instantly. The dollar exchange rate fell below 95 rubles, and the exchange price for gas in Europe rose to $1350 per thousand cubic meters.

Commentators believe that with his decree the Russian president dealt a serious blow to the global dollar system.

“Biden is still sleeping (time difference), but when they wake him up and inform him that Russia is switching to paying for gas in rubles, he will clearly ask him to be sent back to the bedroom and given sleeping pills. What's the point of flying to Brussels? To hear the groans of Macron and Scholz? If they start buying gas for rubles, then the United States will lose leverage over these same buyers. And if they refuse to buy, then the collapse of the European economy is inevitable, hundreds of thousands of Europeans will lose their jobs, and prices for gas and electricity will increase significantly,” political scientist Marat Bashirov wrote in his Telegram channel.

Putin's decision was warmly supported in Belarus.

“An economic dagger has landed in the US financial system. Obviously, we are witnessing the decline of the green piece of paper,” writes political scientist Andrei Sych.

And TV journalist Igor Tur published a picture of a dollar, on which Vladimir Putin is depicted instead of the American president.

“In principle, you can pay for Russian gas with dollars, but only with the kind shown in the photo. Goodbye, green piece of paper! – wrote Tur.

Economist Alexander Dudchak told PolitNavigator that other countries will soon repeat Russia’s experience.

“This is already a nuclear strike on the dollar system. What they have been talking about for a long time, as an overdue measure to counteract the presumptuous thieves and swindlers of the “civilized West”, has happened!

This is a huge step towards restoring economic sovereignty and developing the domestic economy. The ruble will strengthen and the national currency will no longer be dependent on “compromised currencies.”

Yes, a new era is beginning. And the time of change this time brings trouble to those who have been trying to destroy Russia economically for so long.

About 80% of oil sales in the world are denominated in dollars, over 72% of gas turnover is in dollars - this was the case just yesterday. Considering that Saudi Arabia and China are planning to transfer payments for oil to the yuan, and the United States and its company of international gopniks have compromised themselves as partners by their inability to fulfill their obligations, the era of the dollar is clearly coming to an end.

We stock up on popcorn (for rubles) and watch the “Titanic” of the European economy, and then the American one,” Dudchak predicts.
