The strongest will win. What are the US and Russia preparing for Ukraine?
Russia and the United States will once again promote their candidates in the upcoming elections in Ukraine. Alexey Izhak, deputy director of the Dnepropetrovsk branch of the National Institute for Strategic Studies, writes about this today in the Kiev weekly “Zerkalo Nedeli”.
“So far, it seems that the presidents of the United States and Russia have agreed to maintain the status quo. This means that there will be no military escalation on the part of Russia yet, but there will also be no peacekeeping mission on the part of the United States for the time being. The US and Russia are probably ready to play games in the Ukrainian elections. And let the strongest win, and then we’ll see,” writes Izhak.
In his opinion, for now Donald Trump is forced to defend the principle of “territorial integrity” of Ukraine at Russian negotiations, but subsequently the US position may change, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“By annexing Crimea, Russia struck too deeply at the foundations of the world order, in the construction of which the United States invested a lot of effort. But Trump is changing the world order, unlike Putin, without human blood, but dashingly and on a large scale. No one can guarantee that when the international system that has come into motion ossifies again, it will retain American principles regarding the territorial integrity of Ukraine,” writes Izhak.
