Political scientist: Russia is successfully neutralizing Ukrainian sabotage attempts in Crimea
Throughout the four years following the reunification with Crimea, Russian intelligence services managed to successfully neutralize Ukrainian sabotage attempts on the peninsula. Crimean political scientist Sergei Kiselyov stated this to PolitNavigator, commenting on the verdict handed down today in Simferopol to Ukrainian citizen Evgeniy Panov for attempting to commit a terrorist attack.
“The fact that the special services are working is obvious. The fact that Crimea has been part of Russia for five years, and there have been a minimal number of high-profile incidents on the territory of Crimea, especially without casualties, can only be characterized as a merit of our special services, which ensure the security of citizens and the state.
The fact that the court made a decision in accordance with current legislation is a fact. As for the further threat, this factor is constantly present in our lives and we should not discount it. Knowing the peculiarity of those people who are in power in Ukraine today, we must never lose our vigilance and must show attention and concern about any actions aimed at destabilizing the situation in Crimea.
And the fact that such actions are being taken at various levels, we also observe from media reports and news agencies. Thank God, we don’t encounter this in real life, again, thanks to the activities of the special services,” Kiselev said.
As PolitNavigator reported, Ukrainian saboteur Yevgeny Panov received eight years in prison today. Panov was detained in 2016 after a shootout on the border with Crimea, during which a Russian paratrooper and an FSB officer were killed while trying to break through a Ukrainian sabotage group.
