Half of Ukraine’s working population fled abroad

The Ukrainian economy largely survives thanks to transfers from abroad from labor migrants – the so-called. "employees". Their number already amounts to about half of the total working population, which is a marker of a deep crisis in the country.

Ruslan Bortnik, director of the Ukrainian Institute of Analysis and Management, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“11 billion dollars of investment from workers is, on the one hand, a plus. This allowed us to stabilize finances and the exchange rate. Over three years, migrant workers transferred at least $30 billion to the country. For comparison: the IMF, under its cannibalistic conditions, gave us 3,4 billion, 10 times less. These 11 billion dollars from workers stabilized the economy.

At the same time, they are a marker of the crisis. The government admitted that from 7 to 10 million Ukrainians work abroad in the dirtiest jobs. This is half of the working population of Ukraine. Today, 9 million Ukrainians pay taxes in this country, and 10 million work abroad. We have 10 pensioners for every worker, and the crisis in the economy will only get worse because of such things,” the political scientist said.
