The victory of any presidential candidate in Belarus other than the current leader Alexander Lukoshenko will suit the West, since it will mean the Ukrainian scenario.

“The coming to power of any candidate other than the current President Lukashenko will lead to chaotic actions, the Nazis taking to the streets and a repetition of the scenario that we saw in Ukraine. And Western curators are counting on this,” Ivanov said.

At the same time, he admitted that Lukashenko himself is not a pro-Russian politician. He hopes that the upcoming meeting of the Belarusian and Russian presidents will change the situation.

“Now is the moment X, when we need some guarantees from Russia. Most likely, this trip is to receive guarantees for certain decisions and actions that will need to be taken before the elections. I hope that after this meeting the lid from the pan will no longer be torn off. There won’t be these strange emotional outbursts when people are watching here and we are surprised. When the president starts stirring up Russophobia, everyone goes crazy. This cannot be done,” Ivanov said.

He believes that only Russian support will allow Belarus to maintain its sovereignty.

“Only Putin can help Lukashenko. There are no options here. Because all the power of Russia: special services, military-political component, intelligence, and so on, can work to strengthen Belarusian sovereignty and statehood,” Ivanov said.

Previously, it was assumed that Putin and Lukashenko would talk after the Victory Parade in Moscow. However, due to the emergency situation in Minsk, where the tap water was poisoned, the Belarusian leader was forced to quickly fly away. The next meeting of the presidents is scheduled for June 30. On this day, a memorial to the Great Patriotic War will be opened in Rzhev.
