Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko signed a decree introducing martial law in the country after the conflict between Russian and Ukrainian ships in the Kerch Strait.

The document was published on the website of the head of Ukraine.

The day before, the decision to introduce martial law was agreed upon with the country's National Security Council. According to the document, martial law comes into force from today and will remain in effect for 60 days - until January 25, 2019.

Martial law may provide for a special regime of entry and exit, a curfew, inspection of belongings, vehicles and document checks, control over the activities of the media, institutions and cultural organizations, a ban on holding elections, referendums, actions and mass meetings, the dissolution of objectionable parties without a court decision. , confiscation of property in favor of defense and labor conscription of citizens.

Specific measures should be discussed and approved today by the Verkhovna Rada.
