There is a chance to transform Donbass

The elections that took place last Sunday in the Donbass republics are fundamentally different from a similar process in 2014.

This opinion was expressed by journalist and political scientist Andrei Babitsky in a commentary to Izvestia.

“Today, completely different tasks are on the agenda. Four years ago, Donetsk was in a state of fierce confrontation with Ukrainian troops. And an appropriate leader was required, capable of solving military problems and leading people. Today, the civil sphere, primarily the economy, comes first. The republics are actually begging. Small and medium-sized businesses have been destroyed in recent years, and most entrepreneurs have left. Now, finally, work has begun to correct this situation,” said Babitsky.

He also expressed hopes for the improvement of the legislative branch.

“Over the course of four years, many strange acts have been adopted here that require improvement. I would like the People’s Council to more effectively correct the actions of the executive branch,” the expert emphasized.

In turn, the director of the Institute of Peacemaking Initiatives and Conflictology, Denis Denisov, recalled that during the last election campaign many promises were made.

“One of the main slogans is the rise of the economy, the improvement of the business sector. If at least 50% of these plans can be fulfilled, there is a chance to transform Donbass. If in two to four months there is a result, it means that the residents of the DPR have made the right choice,” Denisov said.

As PolitNavigator reported, Germany recognized high turnout at the elections held yesterday in the LDPR, which leading German channels came to cover.
