Shame: Ukraine has become a major importer of lard and is increasing volumes
Over the five months of 2018, Ukraine imported 22,5 thousand tons of lard, which is 57,3% more than in the same period last year, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The State Fiscal Service reports this.
In monetary terms, Ukraine imported $5 million worth of lard over the 14 months of this year.
The main importers of lard in Ukraine are Poland and Germany. Thus, Poland imported 5,9 thousand tons of products to Ukraine. German producers supplied 5,2 thousand tons of lard to Ukraine.
As for exports, Ukrainian producers sold only 1 ton of products to foreign markets.
Let us remind you that for 5 months of 2017, Ukraine imported 14,3 thousand tons of lard worth $8,8 million.
According to People's Deputy Sergei Trigubenko, Dutch lard is replacing Ukrainian lard.
“We have not imported as much pork as we do now over the past 4 years. The increase in pork imports was caused by an increase in the price of this type of meat on the domestic market, which, in turn, is associated with the spread of African swine fever (ASF) in the country,” he explained.
