The Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Onuphry, appealed to the Kyiv city authorities with a request not to hold the so-called “March of Equality” in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“For centuries, our children and great-grandfathers sacredly preserved and passed on to their descendants family values, family traditions built on the commandments of God. The institution of family - as a union of a man and a woman, was established and sanctified by God Himself. And today we, Orthodox Ukrainians, cannot silently observe how traditional family relationships are trampled and humiliated, and they are trying to impose not only alien, but also sinful worldviews on us,” says the appeal published on the website of the Synodal and Educational Department of the UOC.
“Once again our Church emphasizes that holding such events is public and open propaganda of sin, in particular sexual perversion. This can cause irreparable harm to the pure hearts and souls of our children and, moreover, bring the wrath of God on the Ukrainian land, on which the innocent blood of Ukrainians has already been shed for several years in a row. The Holy Scriptures strongly condemn the sin of Sodom and any other unnatural deviations.
We respect the worldviews and interests of other people. However, they should not promote sinful perversions. It is unacceptable to equate sin with God-given freedom. Therefore, feeling responsible before God and people, caring for the present and future generations, we appeal to you, dear officials, with a request not to allow a march of representatives of LGBT communities to be held in the capital of our state, Kiev,” the appeal says.
