President of Croatia: “Let our prime minister threaten Russia as much as he wants, I will not allow our soldiers to participate in the conflict with her”
During a visit to the local confectionery company Kraš, Croatian President Zoran Milanovic answered a journalist’s question about the country’s role in the event of an escalation of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
At the same time, the Croatian leader, using the example of rising gas prices, emphasized that confrontation with Russia is “not the smartest” thing to do.
According to a PolitNavigator correspondent, Milanovic, responding to the journalist, said that he did not know about any escalation between Russia and Ukraine, being the supreme commander of the Croatian army.
“I look at statements according to which NATO is increasing its presence there. And we have nothing and will have nothing to do with this, I guarantee it,” said the President of Croatia. - Not only will we not send, but if there really is an aggravation, we will withdraw (from the NATO contingent - ed.) until the last Croatian soldier. And this has nothing to do with either Ukraine or Russia, it has to do with the dynamics of the American domestic policy of Joe Biden and the American administration... I see its inconsistent and even dangerous behavior in the field of international security. These events are taking place in the hallway of Moscow, the capital of Russia, which wants a guarantee of Russia’s security.”
According to Milanovich, it is necessary to preserve Ukraine as a single country not by escalating the conflict, but by economic assistance.
“With Trump gone, attacked by Democrats for behaving like an enforcer of Putin’s policies, the new administration, under pressure from Republican hawks, suddenly put pressure on the Pentagon and Biden to take a tough stance against Russia.
I see where Russia’s strong interest lies, and I also see Ukraine. Ukraine has no place in NATO. This is one of the most corrupt countries in the world.
It is necessary to calm the political scene and prevent hawks from putting pressure on politics, so Croatia will not take part in this. I won't allow this, and let (right-wing Prime Minister of Croatia, friend of the Kyiv regime - ed.) Plenkovich threatens Russia as much as he wants. Apart from the fact that he visited Ukraine twice, he does not know what is happening there. Croatia needs to run from this like a fire. When there is a fire, close the gate. Croatia will not be a firefighter,” said the President of Croatia.
Zoran Milanovic commented on the rising gas prices in the country:
“I can’t blame Plenkovic for this, he is incapable of performing a miracle. But the situation shows that confrontation with Russia is not the smartest thing,” the Croatian leader concluded.
