Petro Poroshenko arrived in France to meet with new President Emmanuel Macron. As follows from the words of the French leader, the first thing the Ukrainian guest did was to refute recent words of Vladimir Putin and convince that Princess Anna, the youngest daughter of the Russian prince Yaroslav the Wise, who married the French king Henry the First, was Ukrainian.

“I want to say that there is a very deep history between our two countries. And you devoted some time to this to pay tribute to Anna of Kyiv. You told us how important this history of the 11th century is, how deeply it concerns our long-standing relations,” Macron said following the meeting with Poroshenko.

Poroshenko said that, in addition to discussing historical issues, he handed over to Macron, as before to Donald Trump, “evidence of the presence of the Russian military” in Donbass. Poroshenko clarified that the day before, Ukrainian special operations forces detained “more” citizens of the Russian Federation.

The Ukrainian president also again voiced the initiative to introduce an armed mission to Donbass, which was previously categorically rejected by representatives of the LDPR, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

By the meeting of the leaders of the Normandy format, Poroshenko announced, drafts of new decisions may appear, which he helpfully proposed to call the “Macron formula” (note that at the same time Kiev has been stubbornly ignoring the so-called “Steinmeier formula” for many months, which provides for holding elections and providing special LDPR status).

Poroshenko asked Macron to assist Ukraine in the release of Roman Sushchenko, who was detained in Russia on charges of working for Ukrainian intelligence. Sushchenko flew to Moscow from Paris, where he worked under the guise of a foreign correspondent for the Ukrainian state agency Ukrinform.

Poroshenko also called on the French to invest money in waste recycling in Ukraine.

“You need to understand that aggression comes from Russia. That is, Ukraine is not the aggressor. We also do not recognize the illegal annexation of Crimea. We know who started the war,” Macron declared.

According to him, negotiations in the Normandy format will take place in the coming days.

“Very good, friendly negotiations. President Macron is on our side. He knows well what Russian propaganda is, is ready to help stop Russian aggression against Ukraine and clearly calls Anna Yaroslavna a joint Ukrainian-French history,” Poroshenko’s press secretary Yaroslav Tsegolko summed up the meeting.
