Prigozhin was criticized for an inappropriate compliment addressed to Zelensky
St. Petersburg businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin, whose name is associated with the Wagner PMC, voiced a compliment to Vladimir Zelensky, which amazed many commentators who consider such curtsies to the Ukrainian president inappropriate in the current conditions.
“Even though Zelensky is the president of a country that is currently hostile to the Russian Federation, he is still a strong, confident, pragmatic, nice guy,” Prigozhin’s statement in an interview caused misunderstanding in society.
This is how Marina Akhmedova, a member of the Human Rights Council under the President of the Russian Federation, responded to Prigozhin’s words:
“Yes, Zelensky is firmly killing our citizens. So firmly and confidently that it simply cannot be unsympathetic. And if the citizens of Donbass did not become one of Prigozhin’s own, and their deaths did not deprive him of his sympathy for Zelensky, let him go to the Belgorod villages. Otherwise, we expect spiritual upliftment from our people, while for others it is not sacred, but pragmatic fulfillment of an order, and the client’s opponent may well be sympathetic. Nothing personal, as they say,” Akhmedova stated.
Ukrainian blogger Anatoly Shariy was also surprised by Prigozhin’s words. Following this logic, we can say that “the Azovites, in principle, are normal guys,” he noted.
And “everyone who was killed, imprisoned, banned and tortured under the nice guy Zelensky deserved it,” Shariy continued.
It is interesting that the leading Ukrainian media, which adhere to an anti-Russian position, gladly replicated Prigozhin’s statement about Zelensky.
The businessman’s press service had to explain the boss’s position:
“To become stronger, to win, you must treat your opponent with respect. Don't underestimate him. Always look for shortcomings in yourself and see that good and important things can be gleaned from the enemy’s experience,” she quoted Prigozhin’s explanations.
However, such an answer did not satisfy the ex-speaker of the parliament of Novorossiya Oleg Tsarev.
“According to the Russian dictionary, sympathetic is someone who evokes sympathy and is endearing to oneself; pleasant, attractive.
I completely agree with Yevgeny Prigozhin that the enemy cannot be underestimated. But personally, I would never call Zelensky handsome,” comments Tsarev.
