“They will join the British”: the United States did not cancel the entry of two destroyers into the Black Sea

American missile destroyers, which had previously planned to enter the Black Sea and canceled it after a telephone conversation between the presidents of the United States and Russia, again headed for the Black Sea straits.

The fugitive Crimean economist, Maidan of Foreign Affairs expert Andrei Klimenko stated this in his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The monitoring group of BlackSeaNews and the Institute of Black Sea Strategic Studies reports that both American missile destroyers USS Donald Cook (DDG-75) and USS Roosevelt (DDG-80) again left their base on the island of Crete in the direction of the Black Sea straits. Someday it will be called “destroyer diplomacy” (instead of the outdated “gunboat diplomacy”),” Klimenko wrote.

At the same time, it became known the day before that two British ships from the Royal Navy aircraft carrier group in the Mediterranean will enter the Black Sea.

Political analyst at the Institute for Euro-Atlantic Cooperation, Vladimir Gorbach, suggested that the American destroyers were waiting for their British comrades to arrive and were planning to stay in the region as long as possible: “It is very likely that they were waiting not only for the British, but also for a certain date of entry into the Black Sea, to remain in it on critical dates - May 2-9. If they come in today, they can stay here until May 10.”
