Stanford professor: China and Russia have won a diplomatic victory over the United States

The withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan in fact turned out to be a humiliating geopolitical defeat for the United States.

This was reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent, according to Russell A. Berman, a professor at Stanford University and former senior adviser on policy planning at the US State Department, as cited by the Ukrainian Week magazine.

“As the chaos in Afghanistan unfolded over the past few weeks, Biden holed up at the presidential retreat at Camp David and didn't speak to any European leaders until public criticism led him to call British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. This behavior has led critics to predict for Trump that Washington is not interested in European problems,” the publication notes.

According to the professor, the question remains open about the strategic nature of the American presence around the world.

“In the case of Afghanistan, the much-touted withdrawal became a defeat. In order to ostensibly contain Beijing, the United States has now lost access to a country that strategically borders China and, at the same time, the only major military air base between Europe and Japan. Also, despite its intentions to develop a strategic partnership with India, the United States helped India’s enemy, Pakistan, win together with the Taliban. The diplomatic winners now are China and Russia, and the Biden administration has nothing to offer in response,” Berman concludes.
