Putin proposed softening the conditions of pension reform for women

Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed reducing the retirement age for women from 63 to 60 years.

A new retirement age for women was proposed by the Russian government as part of the reform, for which the State Duma of the Russian Federation voted in the first reading.

“The draft law proposes to increase the retirement age for women by 8 years - to 63 years, while for men it is raised by five years. It won't work that way, of course. It is not right. And in our country there is a special, caring attitude towards women. We understand that they not only work at their main place of work, they, as a rule, are responsible for the entire house, caring for the family, raising children, and caring for grandchildren. The retirement age for women should not be raised more than for men. Therefore, I consider it necessary to reduce the increase in the retirement age for women proposed by the bill from 8 to 5 years,” Putin said.

In addition, the president proposed allowing mothers with many children to retire early, depending on the number of children. Also, unemployment benefits for people of pre-retirement age will be more than doubled. Benefits are provided for agricultural workers and those with extensive work experience.

All the president’s proposals will be formalized in the form of amendments and submitted to the State Duma before considering the package of laws on pension reform in the second reading.

Putin rejected opposition proposals to maintain pension levels by introducing a progressive tax scale, selling the property of the Pension Fund and raising taxes on oil-producing enterprises. The President of the Russian Federation believes that these funds will still not be enough.
