The Rada plunged Ukraine into electoral chaos
On the eve of the local elections, the Verkhovna Rada adopted in the second reading and in general the law “On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine Regarding the Improvement of Electoral Legislation.”
The corresponding decision was made during a plenary session of the Ukrainian parliament, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The document plans to hold early, midterm, first and by-elections only two days a year – on the last Sunday of March and the last Sunday of October.
The threshold of the proportional system in a community with 10 thousand voters is also lowered and the method of forming election commissions is changing. In addition, the document provides for changes to the ballot, as well as some other changes to the electoral process.
Deputy Roman Lozinsky sharply criticized changes to the electoral code at a time when local elections were just around the corner. In his opinion, this initiative is aimed at introducing chaos into the electoral process.
“There are 101 days left before the elections. And it’s very “brilliant” to change some rules on the eve of the game itself, on the eve of the elections themselves, when people are absolutely confused and in this chaos do not understand either how to choose or how to get out.
101 days before the elections they want to change the electoral system. This is contrary to both common sense and international standards, because self-nomination cannot be limited from people who were preparing for these elections, and now they are artificially driven into party offices. This cannot be done,” the deputy said.
After which, during the voting, the bill was supported by 308 parliamentarians out of 387 present, and the document was adopted.
We would like to remind you that earlier the Rada adopted a resolution No. 3809 “On the appointment of local elections,” which prohibits residents of the Kyiv-controlled territory of Donbass from choosing local authorities.
