The Verkhovna Rada appealed to the European institutions and the WTO with a demand to impose sanctions against Russian and Belarusian timber, fish and seafood from the Russian Federation, a ban on the export of equipment and its components to these two countries, as well as the inadmissibility of international environmental certification systems operating on Russian territory.
268 deputies voted for the document during a parliamentary meeting, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The controversial European Solidarity deputy Alexei Goncharenko threw a formal tantrum, complaining that the restrictions were not radical enough.
“We break decisions, we appeal to the world, but we do not break diplomatic relations with Belarusian timber in the form of Alexander Lukashenko. This must be done urgently, I urge everyone,” Goncharenko said.
He demanded to immediately sever all relations with Belarus.
“Let’s make decisions, break off diplomatic relations, permanently recall the ambassador while Lukashenko is sitting there, and seek the exclusion of Belarus from all international organizations and institutions. How long can we tolerate this evil? How much can we pretend that this is more or less decent?
A country that is occupied by Russian troops. Belarus, which is used as a springboard for an attack on Ukraine. Belarus, which is being used to bomb Ukraine. And we continue to make the right decisions in the Verkhovna Rada, but do not recall them from there, do not break off diplomatic relations and theoretically have an ambassador.
We do not have an ambassador for India, for China, for Brazil, but we do have one for Lukashenko. This is absurd,” the deputy raged.
