Russian admiral: For now we will manage without blocking the Kerch Strait
Russia has no reason yet to block the Sea of Azov to Ukrainian ships.
Rear Admiral Vladimir Solovyov, who previously headed the intelligence of the Black Sea Fleet, stated this to PolitNavigator, commenting on today’s statement by Russian Senator Franz Klintsevich.
“Where it is illegal, we will not block anything. This was said in haste. You can't just block it. We need strong evidence of the need for these countermeasures,” Soloviev said.
He believes that a more effective measure against attempts to seize Russian ships is to patrol the Sea of Azov.
“This is the most difficult, costly, but the most correct. It is necessary to monitor the situation and provide everyone with the appropriate means of communication so that they can report where they are and what actions are being taken against them. And there special operational forces come in - helicopters and speedboats. We sent ships to the Atlantic to protect our fishing boats during fishing. But in Azov, everything is nearby, you just sneezed - it’s already on the other side,” said Solovyov.
He believes that if Russian ships are protected by patrols, Ukrainian border guards simply will not dare to attack them.
“And if they decide, we have to act in bulk or use weapons, what’s wrong with that. That’s what the weapon was designed for, to use it,” the rear admiral added.
